During the Memorial Day weekend, both St. Paul Parish in New Bern and San Juan Diego Mission in Robbins held events that included Eucharistic Adoration outside the walls of church buildings.
The events were part of a call from Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama to take the Eucharist to people where they are, especially during the centennial year of the Diocese of Raleigh.
On Saturday, May 25 more than 100 people gathered on a farm in Dover, which is about 26 miles from New Bern, for a neighborhood holy hour, or hora sancta, in Spanish. It was the fifth event of its kind, noted Marisa McDonald, a parishioner and photographer who attended the event.
“It was really amazing,” she wrote of the event. “Father Pedro [Mũnoz, O.F.M. Cap.] has helped to set the Hispanic community of Saint Paul on fire in less than a year. The growth and excitement he brought are remarkable!”
On Monday, May 27 the community from San Juan Diego Mission in Robbins held a similar outdoor event. In addition to Father Javier Castrejon, two other priests were present to offer the sacrament of reconciliation to the faithful.
“We are praying for our Diocese of Raleigh Centennial … with our Bishop Luis Rafael,” Father Javier wrote. “It was a great time and place to pray and to praise our Lord.”
