October is American Archives Month, and archivists from around the U.S. will be answering any and all questions on “Ask An Archivist Day,” October 12.
Ask An Archivist Day is your chance to connect to the Archives of the Diocese of Raleigh and learn more about what archivists do and how they do it.
In the Diocese of Raleigh, Monsignor Gerald Lewis, Director of the Archives, oversees efforts to collect, preserve, and make available the records of the diocese. As the official repository of the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh, the Office of the Archives serves to retain the memory of the diocese from its establishment in 1924 as well as the history of Catholicism in North Carolina.
"We are always busy doing the exciting work of collecting, protecting and sharing the history of the Diocese of Raleigh," said Diana Zwilling, Archivist for the Diocese of Raleigh. "The records collected and maintained in the Archives of the Diocese of Raleigh represent the precious history of Catholicism in eastern North Carolina and form the basis of the collective memory of the faithful. Archivists save the future by preserving the past!"
