Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama recently visited Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Raleigh to bless a new Saint Joseph statue on the property as well as the The Way of Saint Joseph pilgrimage walk on the parish grounds. Following Mass and the blessing of the statue on the corner of Donald Ross Drive and Poole Road, Bishop Luis led a procession to the first station of the Way of St. Joseph, which he then also blessed.
“Now we need to discover God’s will for each one of us and make our way delivering the Good News we received with the example from Saint Joseph and become examples for the other one,” Bishop Luis said, following the blessing of the first station.
Father Peter Devereux, L.C., pastor, explained during Mass, “The Way of Saint Joseph is not simply another devotion but a means of helping each of us find our own way.”
Similar to Stations of the Cross, the 14 stations along The Way of Saint Joseph (PDF) invite pilgrims to draw life lessons and spiritual guidance from Saint Joseph’s life experiences.
In addition to Father Devereux, Bishop Luis was joined in the celebration of the Mass by Father Steven Reilly, L.C., a member of the Legionaries of Christ who was recently assigned to the Legionary Community in Durham as the local superior, and Father Lourduraj Alapaty, who has been in residence at St. Joseph’s for many years while serving as Catholic Chaplain at WakeMed Hospital. After the Mass and blessings, parishioners joined in refreshments afterwards in Saint Monica Hall.
