On November 2, Father Michael Burbeck, VG, celebrated Mass for all deceased bishops and priests at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Newton Grove.
The Mass is offered annually on All Souls' Day for deceased bishops, priests and the faithful departed of the diocese. Father Burbeck reminded those in attendance that this was a time to not only recognize those who have gone before us but also to recognize that we are in communion with them, and with each other.
High school students from Cardinal Gibbons and Saint Thomas More Academy were in attendance as lectors, altar servers and choir members.
A central location within the Diocese of Raleigh, Newton Grove has held a special role in the mission of the Church in Eastern North Carolina. Bishop Vincent S. Waters and Bishop Joseph Gossman and many priests are buried at the cemetery.
