APEX - The Cofradia del Santo Niño de Cebu inaugurated 50 members to the local chapter in the Diocese of Raleigh Jan. 27. The installation ceremony, which took place at St. Mary Magdalene Church, signified a momentous step in fostering faith and devotion to Santo Niño de Cebu within the Filipino community in the Triangle area.
It was the ninth time St. Mary Magdalene Church has hosted the event.
The solemn rites were presided over by Father Nestor B. Bandalan, Jr., O.S.A., vice-rector of the Basilica del Santo Niño de Cebu, or the Basilica del Santo Niño, which is in the Philippines.
Also present were Father Chris Koehn, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene, Monsignor Donald Staib, pastor emeritus, and Father Marcos Léon, pastor of Butner’s St. Bernadette Church and the spiritual director for the chapter.
Father Nestor gave a presentation of the spiritual background and obligatory roles and duties of being a new member to the Cofradia del Santo Niño de Cebu. The celebration ended with a Filipino feast and fellowship.
The feast of Santo Niño, which is a celebration of the Christ Child, is celebrated each year on the third Sunday in January.
