Last week St. Thomas More Academy celebrated its annual Friendsgiving, put on by their Future Farmers of America Chapter. The school raised over $3,500 to support The Veterans Farm of North Carolina, an organization founded by Mr. Robert Elliott, a United States Marine Corps Veteran. The FFA chapter recently received a grant to help with the costs of the event in order to make it not only environmentally friendly but also COVID safe.
STMA is the only Catholic school in North Carolina with a Future Farmers of America chapter. More than one-third of the students are members, caring for the school’s small flock of laying hens and a garden area with organic produce. In addition to the support for The Veterans Farm of North Carolina, STMA’s FFA chapter has donated hundreds of pounds of organic produce to Catholic Parish Outreach and Interfaith Food Shuttle in recent years.
