Diocese of Raleigh Catholics support national collections

In 2024 the faithful of the Diocese of Raleigh continued to demonstrate remarkable generosity in support of national Catholic collections. Reports from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) show that the diocese contributed approximately $772,000 to various Catholic causes last year.

“The generosity and commitment of our people to the mission of the Church is another example of how our people make this the best diocese in the world,” said Bishop Luis Zarama.

These second collection funds support various Church initiatives, including humanitarian efforts, pastoral outreach, and support for faith communities both domestically and internationally. The donations included nearly $200,000 for the Retirement Fund for Religious, which supports elderly sisters, brothers, and religious order priests across the nation. Since this fund was established, the Diocese of Raleigh has contributed over $6.3 million to support our aging religious.

Other significant contributions from 2024 included:

  • $132,202 to Catholic Relief Services Collection
  • $104,535 to the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe
  • $98,082 to Catholic Home Missions Appeal
  • $97,801 to the Collection for the Church in Latin America
  • $94,216 to the Peter's Pence Collection
  • $45,676 to the Catholic Communication Campaign

"These contributions provide vital support for faith communities and people in vulnerable situations," said Mary Mencarini Campbell, executive director of the USCCB Office of National Collections, in a letter to Bishop Luis.
