The Diocese of Raleigh recently hosted the first of a series of discernment retreats for men interested in the priesthood and who are considering a vocation to the priesthood for the Diocese of Raleigh. Led by Father Michael Schuetz, Promotor of Vocations and pastor of Mother of Mercy Parish in Washington, NC, the retreat offered an opportunity for these young men to connect with others discerning a vocation to the priesthood and with other priests of the diocese.
“Part of our time together was spent in Eucharistic adoration,” explained Father Schuetz. “Because for all of us, but especially these young men in discernment, it’s important to find the time to pray about how God has been, is, and will continue to be working in our lives.”
Attendees were also given the opportunity to hear a vocation testimony by Father Marlon Mendieta, pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in Roanoke Rapids. Among the topics he discussed was the diversity of the Diocese of Raleigh.
“At one point in your priesthood, you may be serving in the city,” said Father Marlon. “At another point, you may be serving in the country. But, no matter the location, you are being asked to love the people of God and to serve them.”
