On Oct. 19 more than 150 couples from throughout the diocese gathered with friends and family at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral for the annual Wedding Anniversary Mass.
The annual event demonstrates thankfulness for marriage and honors those celebrating milestones such as 25, 50 and more than 60 years.
“Being together for this many years is a sign of very generous hearts who are willing to give to each other the best to make one another happy,” said Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama in his homily. Bishop explained that love grows through daily signs such as holding hands, phone calls or a simple kiss.
He said simple things are the things that make the day and encouraged people to pray together.
“As couples pray together, they unite themselves in prayer to the spirit, close to the one who nourishes and who is pure love,” the bishop said. “Prayer will help you to discover, through his eyes, something new in the other person because love is always open to seeing something beautiful and new in the other one. The beautiful challenge of love is to reach the soul and heart of the other person.”
After the homily, Bishop Luis bestowed the Rite of Blessing of Married Couples. To celebrate the occasion, couples received a commemorative certificate. After Mass, Bishop Luis greeted and took photos with couples in the narthex.
This event was coordinated by the Office of Evangelization and Discipleship, which is dedicated to providing support, resources and learning opportunities surrounding the vocation of married life.
