Parishes in the Diocese of Raleigh are participating in a special collection for disaster relief efforts in Texas and Louisiana following Hurricane Harvey, which brought catastrophic flooding and widespread damage.
The special collection will take place at all Masses on the weekend of September 9-10, 2017. The funds will be directed to the Unites States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which is working with Catholic Charities USA to get assistance to those impacted by Harvey.
In this effort, the diocese joins dioceses throughout the United States and Pope Francis, who recently offered prayers for flood victims.
“I want to express my heartfelt participation in the sufferings of the inhabitants of Texas and Louisiana struck by a hurricane and by exceptional rains that have caused victims, thousands of displaced and considerable material damage," the pope said Sept. 3.
