During a bilingual Mass at Our Lady of the Snows in Elizabethtown, Bishop Luis Zarama and pastor Father Fernando Meléndez celebrated the sacrament of confirmation.
Confirmation is the third of three sacraments of initiation for Catholics who have been baptized and received their first holy Communion as children. While most confirmands are typically teenagers, among the 15 individuals confirmed this past Sunday were Larry Stelfox, a military veteran whose Catholic faith journey was delayed by military service and deployment. Marie Worytko, who leads faith formation at Our Lady of the Snows, served as his sponsor.
At each confirmation Mass, candidates complete the initiation that began at baptism. They are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and are welcomed as full members of the Church community.
Following Mass, Bishop Luis enjoyed celebrating with the overflow crowd of sponsors, families and parishioners. After photos and fellowship he joined the community in a celebratory luncheon.
